Convenience and friendliness are irreplacable

We're very sad to hear that our favorite neighborhood hardware store will be closing its doors very soon. Over the last 17 years, we have grown to love the convenience and the friendliness of the staff at the store.

One of those staff members was our teenage son. It was his first job, and we don't think there are many jobs out there for teenagers where one could learn to make keys, cut glass and pipe, learn to sort out a huge inventory and work the register and phone. He also learned a great deal about home improvement and tools.

As parents we're appreciative of the skills our son acquired while he was working there, and we're sure that he will use them in the future.

We are also appreciative of being able to buy just one or two pieces of hardware for the many home projects that come up short.

Instead of parking at the jungle and getting lost in the maze we call Home Depot, Newbury Park Hardware was an oasis of simplicity. Always a person to help you find what you needed instead of the hunt for help at Home Depot.

We were spoiled with this little store staying open until 8 p.m., too. Sometimes the hardware store didn't have everything we needed, but we were sure surprised to see how much it did have. We'll miss our Newbury Park hardware store. Mary and Bob Watson Newbury Park
