Rodeo animal welfare bill goes to state Senate

The California Assembly recently approved AB 1614, a measure requiring that Mexicanstyle rodeos have a veterinarian on call, a requirement that is already law for American rodeos.

The bill, sponsored by Animals in Action and the United States Humane Society, was approved on a 60-7 vote by the full Assembly and is headed to the Senate.

AB 1614 was written by Assemblymembers Audra Strickland (R-Westlake Village), Joe Coto (D-San Jose), Lloyd Levine (D-Van Nuys) and Mark Leno (D-San Francisco).
