Comedy in the Conejo returns to The Canyon

Kiwanis of Thousand Oaks will host one of its major fundraising events, "Comedy in the Conejo II," from 6 to 11 p.m. Sun., June 10 at The Canyon, 28921 Roadside Drive, Agoura Hills.

The event, sponsored by First California Bank, will present six comedians and a master magician, along with a live and silent auction and an optional three-course dinner. Last year's "Comedy in the Conejo" entertained 400 people with comedy and music.

Featured new entertainers include master of ceremonies Frasier Smith of radio and TV, comedy magician Matt Marcy from the Magic Castle, Andrew Kern and his Comedy Machine featuring Andy and his comedians Mike Marino, the New Jersy Bad Boy, and Tymon Shipp of the Laugh Factory and Comedy Store. Local comedians Steve Seagren and Louis Ashamallah, the "Fortune 500 Comedian," will also perform.

Among the live auction e Canyon

items will be a "vacation of your dreams" for four couples or a large family at a gated Mexican Villa on a hillside overlooking the bay of Manzanillo.

Tickets for the social and show are $30 each. An optional dinner is available for an additional $40.

Tickets or tables for eight are available from The Canyon club at (818) 879-5016, or call Kiwanis at (805) 376-0219.

Proceeds benefit the children's and seniors' organizations supported throughout the year by the Thousand Oaks Kiwanis Club Charitable Foundation. The principal objective of Kiwanis is to help children grow and learn, understand and participate in community activities through volunteerism, and produce the next generation of leaders in local communities.

During 2007, Kiwanis of Thousand Oaks helped to kick off this year's Little League season by serving a pancake breakfast to almost 4,000 children, delivered Meals on Wheels every weekend to seniors, organized the Conejo Valley Days Parade and held the "Wheels to the Sea" for many handicapped children. The organization also works with High School Key (Kiwanis Education Youth) Clubs to provide volunteer services to others and kicked off the newest Key Club at Westlake High School.

More volunteerism and fundraising are planned throughout the year, including a national Barbecue and Chili Cook-off in August and a Texas Hold'em Poker and Casino Night on Nov. 11 at the Borderline Restaurant and Club in Thousand Oaks.
