Free CLU forum to discuss HIV prevention, care for Latinos Adina Nack, PhD, and Jose Marichal, PhD, will discuss HIV prevention and care for Latinos in Ventura County at 4 p.m. today, Thurs., May 3, in Overton Hall at California Lutheran University. The presentation is part of CLU's Alma and Clifford Pearson Distinguished Speakers Series in the Center for Leadership and Values. Nack, a professor of sociology at CLU, and Marichal, a professor of political science at CLU, will discuss their research titled "Improving HIV Prevention and Care for Ventura County Latinos: A Case Study of Community-Based Action Research." Much of Nack's research as a medical sociologist has focused on HIV/AIDS prevention and care. The winner of national awards for her research on the stigma of sexually transmitted diseases, Nack has published numerous articles on social issues facing people who are infected with HIV. She has served as a member of the Ventura County HIV/ AIDS Coalition since 2003. Marichal, whose work has focused mainly on public deliberation, policymaking, social networking, community engagement and race/ethnic politics, has also had his research published. The chair of the Ventura County Latino HIV/AIDS Task Force, Marichal is also a member of the board of El Concilio del Condado de Ventura. The Center for Leadership and Values was formed in the CLU School of Business in 1999 to promote discussion of issues related to values, character, leadership and social progress within the university and the larger community. The event, which is free and open to the public, is cosponsored by the Center for Equality and Justice, campus ministry and the departments of political science, religion and sociology.
