Annual 'Cruisin' the Conejo' bike ride will benefit children

Conejo Valley Cyclists and Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 753 invite the public to participate in the 23rd annual "Cruisin' the Conejo" fun and fitness bicycle ride in and around the Thousand Oaks area on Sat., May 12.

Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 9 a.m. The Full Century ride starts at 7, the Metric Century rides at 8, and the 35- and 21-mile cruises by 9 a.m.

The course routes are: Short cruise, a 21-mile short-cut tour of the Conejo; Metric HalfCentury, a 35-mile moderate tour; Challenging Metric Century, a 62-mile climb through Santa Monica Mountains; Moderate Metric Century, a 68-mile ride with half the climbing as the Challenging Metric; Full Century, a 103-mile ride with miles added to the Challenging Metric.

With the support of corporate partner Giant Bicycles, proceeds from the ride will help provide free bicycles and bicycle helmets to students in need at six Title 1 schools in Conejo Valley Unified School District, including tricycles for three preschool centers.

Prices are $40 for single riders, $10 for children and $60 for tandem riders.
