Farmers' Market has fresh fruit

Fresh fruits available at the Ventura County Certified Farmers' Markets this spring include limes, lemons, navels, blood oranges and tangerines in addition to ruby red grapefruit and oro blancos (hyprid grapefruit), according to grower Mike Shore.

Fuerte and Haas avocados will be available, and soon Valencia oranges will arrive and be available through the fall.

Reynaldo Rodriguez from Rodriguez Farms offers 10 varieties of strawberries including Camarosa and the new Alvion. Harry's Berries will also provide a selection of strawberries this spring. The family owned business will offer Seascape and Gaviota. Strawberries are available through the fall.

The Ventura County Certified Farmers' Market Association operates four weekly markets.

The Thursday Thousand Oaks Market is in a temporary location at the former City Hall building, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive from 2 to 6:30 p.m.

In Ventura the markets are Wednesdays at the Pacific View Mall west parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Saturdays in downtown Ventura at the corner of Santa Clara and Palm streets from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

A Santa Clarita Market is held on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the College of the Canyons, parking lot eight.
