The Thousand Oaks Library will present special programs during the month of April as part of "Celebrate Your Library Month," proclaimed by Mayor Andy Fox, and National Library Week April 15 through 21.

+2 p.m. Sun., April 15: The Danny Janklow Quartet will perform music alternately with high school and college students reading poetry during the library's "Afternoon of Poetry and Music."
+6:30 p.m. Mon., April 16: The library will screen "Normal People Scare Me," a film about the world of autism. Following the movie will be a questionandanswer session with the filmmakers, Taylor Cross and Keri Bowers.
+6 p.m. Wed., April 18: The Newbury Park Branch will present a free screening of the film "Seabiscuit." Families are welcome; popcorn is included. "Seabiscuit" is based on the true story of a race horse who was a long shot but became a legend.
+1 p.m. Sun., April 22: Author and T.O. High graduate Jennifer Chiaverini comes home with her latest book in the Elm Creek Quilts series, "The Quilter's Homecoming," set in a fictional Conejo Valley.
+2:30 p.m. Sun., April 29: Storyteller Donald Davis will present family tales.

The T.O. Library is also presenting several programs this month on using the Internet and other electronic resources.

+The many features of TOMCat, the Thousand Oaks Library Materials Catalog, will be demonstrated from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Fri., April 20. The online catalog is a database of more than 350,000 items in the library's collection. Librarians will show how to search for materials, find book reviews, request titles, access personal library accounts, renew items and take full advantage of the catalog. Registration is required.
+A class for computer novices will be from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Tues., April 24. Participants will learn what computers are, how they work and how to work with files, menus and toolbars. Functions that can be used with a variety of computer operating systems will also be discussed. Registration is required.
+A program on finding reliable information on the Internet will be presented from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Wed., April 25. Librarians will show how to access authoritative, reliable information. Registration is required.
+The features of the search engine Google will be explored from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Thurs., April 26. The program will demonstrate how it can be used as a calculator, converter, translator and dictionary as well as a search tool. Participants will learn basic and advanced search skills and how to interpret results. Registration is required.
+An open Internet lab will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. Fri., April 27 for patrons who have taken one or more of the library's Internet classes. Laptops will be available, and librarians will be on hand to answer questions. Guidance is limited to topics covered in the library's classes. No registration is required; help will be given on a first come, first served basis.
