Junior Women's Club donates to Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Westlake Village Junior Women's Club members presented a check for $7,000 to John MacFadyen, a Make-A-Wish Foundation board member and wish granter, on March 27 during a meeting.

MacFadyen presented a brief history of MakeAWish Foundation and described the types of wishes that the foundation grants. He said the donation will be used to grant a wish to a child in the Conejo Valley.

The mission of Make-A-Wish Foundation is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions and to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Roselle Wolfe and Marlene Schwartz, club co-vice presidents of disbursements, said they chose the Make-A-Wish Foundation to receive the donation because of this mission.

"We were so touched by the grant application the foundation submitted. We all have children, and we were ecstatic to be able to grant a wish of a Conejo Valley child," said Schwartz.

The Westlake Village Junior Women's Club members raised $57,000 for the 2006 fiscal year. A total of 14 local organizations benefited from this effort.

"It gives us great pride to be able to make a difference in our community," said Leslie Adams, club co-president.

The Westlake Village Junior Women's Club is a nonprofit organization open to all women from the Conejo Valley area interested in community service.

Club members raise money for local charities and volunteer their time and talent for Meals on Wheels, Feed the Hungry and other organizations that serve the needy. The club has more than 60 active members.
