Everyone will benefit from Discovery Center

Everyone in our community will benefit from the addition of the Discovery Center, a world-class interactive science and technology museum to be built next to the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks.

As a science educator for over 20 years, I recognize the fact that early experiences in science are critical in the development of problem-solving skills. For students at any level, an understanding of science concepts leads to literacy and critical thinking in all areas of their lives.

Exposure to science concepts enable us all to participate in an increasingly scientific and technological world. Consider just a few issues dominating our headlines: global warming, stem cell research, cloning. A basic understanding of complex issues that confront us daily will help us all make informed choices.

The Discovery Center's "Museum Without Walls" has served over 127,000 people in our area over the past 10 years in a variety of cutting-edge programs. I have seen the excitement and enthusiasm for science generated by these programs in students, parents and grandparents alike. It is now time to erect those walls and build the Discovery Center, an exciting place for all to have fun while learning.
