Praises local recycling efforts

Caps off to Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) and the various sports organizations for partnering together to help keep our neighborhood a little greener (March 1 Thousand Oaks Acorn, "Sports groups receive recycling bins").

With special bins provided by CRPD, these athletic groups will be managing the collection of massive amounts of recyclables generated weekly by sporting events throughout the community.

Sadly, this was lacking at the Kern County Soccer Park (a 40-plus-acre site with 25 fields) which held the most recent AYSO section playoffs. This was where our beloved T.O. Lavender Lightnings U10 Girls Team competed and proudly placed third.

Similarly, Aspen Elementary School began a successful recycling program in 2004 to inform students about environmental preservation and at the same time raise much needed classroom funds. As a former program coordinator, I am elated to see that Aspen students along with others can continue their conservation efforts by recycling at home, at school and now at the playing fields.

Thanks CRPD, AYSO Region 9 and those responsible organizations for taking the lead in keeping it clean and green.
