Fed up with Lynn Road traffic problems The resolution of the Lynn Road traffic problem speaks directly to the quality of life issue in our community. Do we continue to allow out-of-control, growth-at-any-price politicians to dictate how we resolve public safety issues in our city? As a resident of Lynn Ranch North who must travel on Lynn Road several times a day, I'm extremely apprehensive each time I join the speedway traffic one encounters on this roadway. Lynn Road is a beautiful boulevard that winds through a completely residential neighborhood. Why are the City Council, the police department and state Sen. Tom McClintock determined to poison the character and destroy property values in the areas adjacent to Lynn by making it an unofficial freeway? These neighborhoods are among the most beautiful in our city. It's a sin for uncaring politicians to steal the intrinsic beauty away from those of us who deeply love our Lynn Road area homes by endorsing the danger, the noise and the pollution that the increased traffic has engendered. Why is habitual speeding tolerated by the city and the police department near Camino Manzan-as where there's a busy church, Madroña Elementary School and a crosswalk that leads to and from Redwood Middle School? As a parent, we have forbidden our son from walking to Redwood because he would have to cross Lynn where insane drivers are operating their vehicles at freeway speeds. I routinely see cars in this area traveling at 60 to 65 mph. Does this make any sense in this part of our neighborhood where there are so many children? Why is there no enforcement of the 45-mph limit? We must have traffic lights at Lotus and Calle Laredo as soon as possible. Please unsynchronize all the lights on Lynn so traffic must stop more often. Please enforce existing speed limits so that speeders know that they will pay for their indifference and recklessness. Please lower the speed limit to 45 mph on the entire length of the road now. Public safety is an issue for which it is worth fighting Sacramento in the courts. Members of the City Council, please show the qualities of courage and leadership you all promised to deliver in your election rhetoric and address these glaring problems now. Please don't wait for a horrible fatal accident to occur before you are motivated to act. Please declassify Lynn Road as a truck route. To make such a designation for a road in a residential neighborhood is completely absurd. We residents understand that a certain amount of truck traffic is necessary for deliveries, but the noise and degradation of air quality from the use of Lynn as a through road can no longer be tolerated.
Lastly, I completely agree with the recommendation put forth in The Acorn editorial
If all of us who live here drive no faster than 45 mph
while on Lynn, we can do a great deal to initiate a trend toward a more
reasonable rate of travel. | |||||
