Reassignment or more than that?

In regard to "T.O. mayor puts on a different hat for Los Angeles Fire Department" in the March 8 issue, talk about putting a positive spin on the negative facts.

Andy is the only operations deputy chief (second in command of the LAFD) ever to be reduced in position.

In Andy's previous assignment the other deputy chiefs reported directly to him, while he reported to the fire chief.

In his "reassignment," Andy will no longer report to the fire chief but to his replacement--another deputy chief. In addition, Andy's responsibility is reduced. Andy's authority is reduced. And Andy's pay is reduced.

Congratulations on your "reassignment," Andy. It sounds more like a demotion to us.
