The Arden Taylor VIII Surf Benefit, hosted by the Ventura Surf Club, is slated to be held Sat. and Sun., March 24 and 25, at Surfer's Point in Ventura.
In addition to the surfing, the weekend will be full of raffles and camaraderie with the World Champion Tandem Teams lift clinic, and a Surfin' your Size division. The action gets underway at 7 a.m. The longboard contest is open to all. Registration fees are $55.
Online contestant registration, a list of divisions, driving directions and hotel information can be found by visiting the website www.ardentaylor.com. Raffle tickets can be purchased online.
This year's event will be in memory of Ted Stinson, a beloved member of the Ventura Surf Club. Stinson had a long history with Arden Taylor Surf Benefit, including serving as Beach Marshall the last seven years.
The final ATSB will also include three benefactors- Gary Holly, Nailhead and Bob Vangelisti.
Holly, a surfboard shaper from Santa Monica, is dealing with stomach/intestinal cancer. Nailhead is 38 years old and is presently on a donor list for a liver transplant in San Diego.
Vangelisti is suffering from Mycobacterium Avium-intracellvare and is seen every day from the shoreline of Malibu with his breathing apparatuses, making his way into the water for a single wave when the conditions are right.
Last year's memorial descendants, Larry Ugale Jr. and Emma Herrera, in addition to other family members of past ATSB recipients, will be in attendance.
Proceeds from the ATSB also benefit charities such as the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and the Humane Society. To make a donation or for more information, contact Keith Akins at (805) 643-7972.
