Objects to union picketers

It disturbed me to see a large banner displayed on the sidewalk in Newbury Park regarding a good name and company in a protest. Why would this be done?

I decided to find out.

The three men holding the banner were giving out fliers. Carpenters Local 150 pays "independent" parties (at union wages?) to display a banner in public instead of taking action directed to the person they have a disagreement with, who is the general contractor for the job on the property in Newbury Park.

Carpenters Local 150 didn't like that the general contractor chose Camarillo Drywall to do the job.

Selleck Properties' Newbury Park project hires a general contractor to complete the work and buildings. The general contractor takes bids from all companies whether they're union or nonunion, giving everyone a chance.

The general contractor that Selleck Properties hired did his job and made the best selection based on cost, criteria for the work, completion date and project. This selection was Camarillo Drywall. That was his choice. The job was then completed. Carpenters Local 150 was upset that it didn't get the job. It is unfortunate.

I think that there's no need for "independent" parties to stand for large time periods on the sidewalk with a banner because they're upset they didn't get the job. Possibly the money that's funded to the person holding up the banner could be put to better use for the families and members of Carpenters Local 150.
