New officer joins fire department

The Ventura County Fire Department announced that Marya Barlow has joined the department as a public information and marketing officer.

Barlow will support Capt. Barry Parker in working with the media and the public and helping manage internal and external communications and marketing functions.

She has more than 10 years of experience working in and with the media. She previously served as a television news anchor and reporter and as a communications director for a Fortune 500 homebuilding company.

Barlow holds a master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University.
