KCLU-FM wins Golden Mikes for five stories

For the sixth year in a row, California Lutheran University's National Public Radio station, KCLU, won more "Golden Mike" awards than any smallmarket radio station in Southern California during ceremonies on Jan. 27 in Universal City. KCLU received five awards from the Southern California Radio Television News Association, said John Sladek, PhD, president of California Lutheran University.

KCLU news director Lance Orozco won four awards. He received Best Radio News Reporting and Best Radio Use of Sound for his coverage of Ventura's School fire. He received a Best Radio Individual Writing award for "Chumash Village," a story about an educational facility being built by the Chumash Tribe, and a Best Sports Reporting award for "Cowboys Hit the Trail," a story about the Dallas Cowboys' final training camp in Oxnard.

Jim Rondeau, KCLU program director, received a Best Public Affairs Program award for "Gold Star Mother," an interview with a mother who lost her son in the Iraq war.

KCLU is a National Public Radio and jazz station serving Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. It broadcasts on 88.3 FM in Ventura County and around the world online at www.kclu.org.
