T.O. Library and AAUW offer 'Tour and Tales,' breakfast The American Association of University Women and the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library will present "Tour and Tales of the Thousand Oaks Library" from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sat., Feb. 24 at 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. A continental breakfast is included with the tour. Reservations are requested by Mon., Feb. 19. The tour will cover the library's broadcasting and local history collections and the online research tools and catalog that can be accessed via the Internet, as well as highlighting recent renovations completed last year. The new children's library contains 390,000 items and operates on an $8.4 million annual budget. Between the adult and children's sections is a 3,600-gallon saltwater aquarium, a gift from the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library. Two new study rooms- one for group projects and one for quiet reading- are part of the remodel, as well as new computers with more seating. A parklike courtyard and a children's garden are adjacent to the Foundation Gift Store. Each year, the library hosts 22,000 children, teen and adult programs. Visitors check out 1.3 million items from the branch annually, and 9,500 visits are made monthly to the library's Internet website. The tour will cover most of these areas and present what search information is available to library members. For information about the library, go to www.toaks.org/library. For information about the tour, call Shirley Morris, (805) 495-9669 or e-mail phillysjm@aol.com. |
