UCLA Extension presents the Writers Studio
The UCLA Extension will present the Writers Studio, four days of writing workshops held Thurs. through Sun., Feb. 8 through 11 at UCLA Extension's 1010 Westwood Center in Los Angeles.

The Writers Studio joins aspiring creative writers and screenwriters with experienced instructors. Participants choose one of 10 workshops in which they will work closely with a professional writer in a class limited to no more than 20 students. The fee is $725, which includes registration, parking, an introductory breakfast and a Sunday reception.

Screenwriting workshops include "Getting It Write: Writing the Story Before Writing the Script," presented by screenwriter/producer Keith Giglio; "Writing the OneHour Television Drama," with Erica Byrne, screenwriter; and "Writing the Romantic Comedy," taught by Billy Mernit, screenwriter and novelist.

Creative writing workshops include "Writing the Personal Essay," taught by author Barbara Abercrombie; "Creating Memorable Characters and Dialogue," with playwright Leon Martell; and "Writing the First Novel," presented by Jessica Barksdale Inclán, fiction writer and poet.

Each workshop is the equivalent of a 10-week, three-unit course, which participants have the option of taking for a grade.
