Blaze in attic damages house in Thousand Oaks

BILL SPARKES/Acorn Newspapers NOT SCI-FI- Firefighters' uniforms glow eerily in the flash of strobe lights as they make sure that Sunday night's house fire on Burning Tree Drive has been completely doused. Firefighters quickly arrived to battle the blaze; no injuries were reported.
Fire department officials are investigating the cause of an attic fire in the 1700 block of Burning Tree Drive in T.O. that began around 7 p.m. Sun., Jan. 28.

Three engines responded to a call that came in at 7:18 p.m., said Capt. Barry Parker, Ventura County Fire Department spokesperson.

"The homeowners attempted to control the fire themselves," he said. Occupants of the house reported smoke coming from the attic, according to Parker.

The Ventura County Red Cross was notified because four adults and one teenager were displaced by the fire, he said.

Attic fires are rare, according to Parker.
