New classes at Conejo Jewish Academy

The Conejo Jewish Academy will offer the following winter semester classes to all adults. No affiliation or membership is necessary.

A lecture by Rabbi Shlomo Yaffe on "Seeing Stars: Astrology and the Kabbalah" will be at 8 p.m. Mon., Jan. 29. Topics addressed include: Is astrology real? Can it make a difference? What is the approach of the great Jewish mystics to using astrology and other similar systems? Yaffe is the founder and director of the Institute for Jewish Literacy in Hartford, Conn. Fees are $10 for advanced reservations and $13 at the door.

"Wednesday Lunch 'n Learn" with Rabbi Moshe Bryski will start Wed., Jan. 31, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and focus on "The 13 Attributes of Divine Mercy." A dairy lunch follows the class. No fee.

"The Kabbalah of Character," led by Rabbi Yisroel Levine, begins at 8 p.m. Feb. 6. This is an eight-part series with practical tools for gaining insight into one's character and charting a path to personal growth. Fee: $65.

"Toward a Meaningful Life" is a four-part course on leading a more productive and fulfilling life based on Judaism and the teaching of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson. The class meets Wednesdays at 8 p.m. starting Jan. 31. Fee: $18.

"Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" is a fiveweek series examining some of the evidence of the absolute truths of Judaic beliefs. Meets at 8 p.m. Thursdays starting Feb. 8. The instructor is Rabbi Shlomo Bistrizky, and there is an $18 fee.

"The Talmud: the Laboratory of Jewish Law" is a sixpart series, gateway into the world of Talmud. Rabbi Yitzchak Sapochkinsky is the teacher. Meets 8 p.m. Thursdays. Fee: $25.

Study groups will be offered in Hebrew, prayer, Kabbalah, mystical teachings, advanced learning, women's Bible study groups and holiday workshops.
