Departing resident says he won't miss California

After 20-plus years, my wife and I are leaving Thousand Oaks for a new chapter in our lives. We are moving to the great state of Texas--Austin to be exact.

We will miss the city but not the state. All the traffic jams, driving sometimes two hours one way just to get to work. Not to mention two hours coming back.

Courtesy for the other person is gone, the middle finger comes up faster than a smile does, and it's not just men who have lost it. Women are the fastest-growing group who yell obscenities just as fast as the men, along with the middle-finger salute.

The City Coundil meetings have become a war zone, each side attacking the other, not a pretty sight. I'm not so naive to think that this won't happen in the great state of Texas, but hopefully not so often as here.

I want to thank the City Council for serving the city so well.

Both sides take a beating from the public; some react better than others.

In closing, I would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Thousand Oaks Acorn, the best "little" paper I have ever seen.

As they say in Texas, "Thanks y'all."
