Police plan to crack down on drivers who pick up day laborers on Hampshire

During the morning hours through Mon., Jan. 22, the Thousand Oaks Police Department will increase efforts to enforce "no stopping" restrictions on Hampshire Road, south of Thousand Oaks Boulevard.

Contractors and other motorists who stop to pick up laborers in that location will receive a warning and a flier from the police department directing them to the designated day laborer pickup site at Royal Oaks Drive, west of Hampshire Road.

Motorists who do not comply will receive a traffic citation, said Sgt. Mike De Los Santos of the Thousand Oaks Police Department.

Coordinators from Oxnardbased nonprofit organization Cyrus Urban Inter-Church Sustainability Network are assisting law enforcement with the safety campaign by directing day laborers in the Old Town neighborhood to the designated pickup location.

For more information, call De Los Santos at (805) 449-2762 or Caroline Milton at (805) 4492331.
