Instructors invited to attend Holocaust education workshop The 24th annual teacher training workshop "The Relevance of Teaching the Holocaust in the 21st Century" will be offered for educators and residents on four consecutive Thursdays from 4:15 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22 with an optional fifth session on March 1. Sessions will be at the AntiDefamation League office, 10495 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, and at the Simon Wiesenthal Center Museum of Tolerance, also in Los Angeles. The workshop is presented by the Anti-Defamation League, the Simon Wiesenthal Center Museum of Tolerance and the Center for Excellence on the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, Human Rights and Tolerance, in cooperation with the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust, the Los Angeles Unified School District and United Teachers of Los Angeles, and the "1939" Club. The workshop offers opportunities to learn from distinguished scholars, educators, arts and technology specialists and survivors' eyewitness accounts. While the course is designed for middle and high school levels, elementary school teachers are also welcome. The five workshops will cover these topics: Overview on the Importance of Holocaust Education, From Forced Emigration to Mass Extermination, Museum of Tolerance as a Resource, Translation in the Classroom and Contemporary Challenges, and Never Again? Genocide Today. Registration fee is $65 before Jan. 20 and $75 after. Fee includes a kosher dinner at each session, learning materials and handouts, and $20 worth of books or videos for classroom use. Educators completing the workshop are entitled to salary points from Los Angeles Unified School District and in-service credit from the Bureau of Jewish Education and may receive university extension units from California State University.
