Police respond to unusual calls Around 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day, deputies responded to two unusual calls. Robert Fitzgerald, 26, of Newbury Park was arrested at his home and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of felony vandalism, according to Capt. Ron Nelson, Ventura County Sheriff’s department spokesman. Fitzgerald allegedly tried to run over a pedestrian, 30, with his Honda in the 1900 block of Woodcutter Lane in Thousand Oaks. During the incident, Fitzgerald’s vehicle allegedly hit two parked cars, causing more than $800 damage, Nelson said. Another call came in at the same time from the 4200 block of Potrero Road in Newbury Park where deputies found Alex Gonzales, 18, unconscious and apparently badly beaten, Nelson said. Residents called police when they found Gonzales, a stranger, inside their home. Deputies took Gonzales to Los Robles Hospital and are investigating the incident, Nelson said. —Nancy Needham |
