Boys' soccer team opens league schedule with impressive win, followed by blowout loss

      The postseason may be a few months away, but the Thousand Oaks High boys' soccer team has already played a pair of playoffworthy opponents to open its Marmonte League schedule. Last season the Lancers finished in second place in league, falling just behind Royal High, who won the Marmonte title.

      Tiger Woods began to get a little hot under the collar after his six-shot lead had been whittled down to two strokes during Sunday's final round of the Target World Challenge at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks.

Williams takes the checkered flag
      PEDAL TO THE METAL- Local racer Jeff Williams drove his SinFuel Choppers, Spectre Performance, Rare Parts.com Ford powered F-150 to another win and his second West Coast Pro Truck championship at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Blythe. Williams qualified on the pole, started in the third position and led almost the entire 50-lap race, lapping all but two trucks.

Fundraiser at Skatelab
      Skatelab in Simi Valley will host an all-night fundraising event on Sat., Dec. 29 for the National High School Skateboard Association. The first 100 skateboarders to sign up will be able to enjoy a night filled with food, drinks, competitions, raffles and music.

Panthers trying to turn program around
Newbury Park wrestling team hasn't had much success in recent seasons

      The Newbury Park High wrestling program hopes a new head coach can finally bring the team new results. After dwindling in the bottom half of the Marmonte League in recent years, Newbury Park hired former Westlake High assistant coach Gary Murphy to replace Dimitry Tsybulezsky on July 10. Murphy is the Panthers' third head coach in the last three years.

Panther running back Chris Brown named Most Valuable Player

      He's only a junior, but Chris Brown of Newbury Park High is already ahead of the competition. Brown took home the hardware as the Marmonte League's Most Valuable Player last week after rushing for 1,904 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Panthers this season.
