25 children treated to shopping spree

2007-12-13 / Community

Twenty-five children, ages 6 to 17, were given the chance to shop for new clothes with money raised by the Rotary Club of Westlake Village. The children were referred to the organization by Interface Family Services.

The 7:30 a.m. shopping spree was also hosted by J.C. Penney in The Oaks mall. The Rotary Club and individual members donated a total of $2,540 to finance the project. Each child received a gift of $100 worth of clothing; J.C. Penney offered a 25 percent discount on all purchases. Assisting each child were Rotary members, their spouses and friends.

Since 1988, the service club has hosted a holiday shopping spree for children in the Conejo Valley. This year, the event was chaired by Nadine Larson, who has organized it for the past three years.

The money for the event was raised during the annual street fair held in the spring by the Rotary Club of Westlake Village.
