Newbury Park man dies of gunshot wound

A 21yearold man was fatally shot in Newbury Park. Resident Juan Nabte was pronounced dead Monday after being shot at about midnight Sunday night. The shooting occurred outside the front of a condominium in the 500 block of Avenida del Platino.

After the shooting, Nabte was taken Los Robles Hospital where he was pronounced brain dead about 14 hours later at 2:10 p.m. Monday, said deputy medical examiner Michael Tellez.

It took awhile for authorities to find Nabte's family in Mexico and notify them, according to Detective Eric Buschow.

An autopsy revealed he died from a gunshot wound to the head, said chief deputy medical examiner James Baroni.

Deputies continue to investigate the shooting and need the public's help in solving the homicide, Buschow said.
