Adult classes coming to Conejo Jewish Academy

The Conejo Jewish Academy, the adult education arm of Chabad of the Conejo, offers the following adult classes. The school is at 30345 Canwood St. in Agoura Hills.

•"Israel: the Land and the Spirit," a new six-week course that focuses on the millenniaold spiritual bond between the Jewish people and Israel, will start at 8 p.m. Wed., Oct. 31.

Each of the six weekly classes will focus on Israeli cities that have served as national spiritual centers at different points in Jewish history: Beersheba, Hebron, Tiberias, Nablus (Shchem), Sefat and Jerusalem.

The fee of $65 includes textbook and access to online forums and message boards to facilitate communication between students and faculty. Enrollment fees will be discounted by 50 percent for participants under the age of 35.

•"Jewish Medical Ethics, From Ancient Text to Current Debate" is a fourpart series beginning 8 p.m. Thurs., Nov. 1.

Instructor Rabbi Shlomo Bistrizky will select four of the most complex areas of Jewish medical ethics, explore the principles and concerns that enter into a Jewish response to these issues and show how Jewish teachings address them within the context of a unique and morally coherent value system.

The course will cover the ethical dilemmas concerning life and death, organ transplants, surrogate motherhood and conjoined twins. The fee is $25 for all fousessions.
