CLU Athletic Hall of Fame to induct seven
      A former football coach and six athletes will be inducted into the California Lutheran University Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame during the fifth annual induction ceremony at 7 p.m. Sat., Oct. 6 in CLU's Gilbert Arena, 60 W. Olsen Road in Thousand Oaks.

New parent group offered
      The Infant and New Parent Education Center at Conejo Valley Neighborhood for Learning offers a newborn/parent group where expectant and new parents can come for support and information. The group meets Tuesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Walkins are welcome. The group is for parents and their infants up to six months old.

National Merit Scholarship semifinalists announced
      Several local high school seniors were named as semifinalists in the 53rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These semifinalists advance to the finalist level and about half of the finalists will be selected as Merit Scholarship winners next spring.

Schools can reap rewards from bakery
      Great Harvest Bread Company in Newbury Park invites area schools between grades K to 12 to apply for a chance to "own" the bakery for a day and keep all of the sales. Schools can nominate themselves to be placed on a ballot. Customers will vote on the school they would most like to see run the bakery.

Fifth-grader, 10, completes summer program at UCLA
      Ten-year-old Darian Khabbaz, a fifthgrader at Madrona Elementary School in Thousand Oaks, recently completed the threeweek residential Summer Institute for the Gifted program at UCLA. The program included courses in the humanities, sciences, math, visual and performing arts, and fitness and recreation.

      The California Department of Education received national recognition for its web-based system that helps students with disabilities access school curriculum, according to Jack O'Connell, state superintendent of public instruction.

Volunteers help tutor kids in math
      Every Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., a small number of high school youth come to Mathnasium, the math learning center in Thousand Oaks, to hone math skills they will need to pass the SAT. This program is free to the teens, who operate most aspects of the Westchester Free Clinic, based in the United Methodist Church of Thousand Oaks on Janss Road.

Golf tournament will benefit Westlake High baseball team
