Prostate Awareness Foundation team reaches Mount Blanc summit, effort raises $30,000
      Prostate cancer survivor Ken Malik of San Francisco; John Loesing, managing editor of the Acorn Newspapers; and Justin Lukasavige of North Carolina climbed France's 15,772-foot Mont Blanc this month, reaching the summit on the morning of Fri., Sept. 14. The three climbers are members of a team sponsored by the Prostate Awareness Foundation.

      Sponsors are needed for the Ventura County Alzheimer's Memory Walk, which will take place Sun., Nov. 4 at Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks. Sponsorships are available at the $500 to $10,000 levels for this event hosted by the Alzheimer's Association, California Central Coast Chapter.

Some qualify for free wheelchairs
      The Senior Wheels USA Program makes Power Wheelchairs available to qualifying senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient. The power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk safely, nor selfpropel a manual wheelchair and who meet the additional guidelines of the program.
