'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' opens season for Cabrillo Theatre

Cabrillo Music Theatre, the resident musical theater company of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, will present the first production in its 2007-08 season, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," with book by Lawrence Kasha and David Landay, music by Johnny Mercer and lyrics by Gene DePaul.

The show will run Fri., Oct. 26 through Sun., Nov. 4 in the Kavli Theatre, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd. Showtimes are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. and Sun., Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

The musical is based on the film of the same name and set in the Pacific Northwest. It tells the story of a husband who surprises his newlywed bride with the presence of his six uncouth brothers, each searching for a wife.

The show features songs from the movie and additional songs by Academy Award-winner Al Kasha and Joel Hirshhorn. Kasha will be consulting on this production and host a postshow discussion on opening weekend.

The director for this production is Lewis Wilkenfeld, Cabrillo's artistic director, with musical direction by Steven Applegate and choreography by John Charron.
