      The season is here, finally. After weeks of beating each other up in practice, grinding things out in the weight room and studying film throughout campus classrooms, the Newbury Park High football team finally gets to play for real Friday night at home against Camarillo High.

      Oaks Christian graduate Jimmy Clausen has been named Notre Dame's starting quarterback for Saturday's game at Penn State. The freshman signal-caller, who ranks as the state's alltime leader in touchdowns, was undefeated as a starter in high school.

Top teams to compete in Conejo Classic

      The Conejo Classic Water Polo Tournament keeps getting bigger every year. This year, the event has expanded to 24 boys' teams and four different venues over two actionpacked days. Host pools include Thousand Oaks, Westlake and Newbury Park high schools, as well as Mavericks Gym in Moorpark, home of the Moorpark High aquatics program.

Girls' volleyball team eyeing Marmonte League threepeat

      It seems as if the Thousand Oaks girls' volleyball team is trying to reach new heights. This season, James Park's squad at TOHS features seven players that are 5-foot-10 or taller. If everything goes according to plan, Park is hoping the team will be looking down at everyone else in the Marmonte League standings as well.
