Home Depot not a good neighbor
      Let's be rational; an eyesore is not a valid reason for bringing in a Home Depot. What you really want is a good neighbor who won't be subject to numerous civil cases for code and environmental violations.

Longs for skating rink at Kmart site
      The city is planning a great science museum adjacent to the Civic Arts Plaza. I think it's a good idea, but I also feel it's a minority of people who will benefit.

Defending the Dos Vientos HOA board of directors
      A recent letter published in the Aug. 23 T.O. Acorn by Jim Olson of Newbury Park complains of real estate open house signs and basketball hoops that don't comport with Dos Vientos Ranch homeowners association rules. I know how hard it is to enforce rules. I currently serve on the rules committee and also served on this committee a few years ago.

Families praised for training their dogs
      Thank you so much for an excellent article illustrating a way for the family to participate in activities that include their dog ("Residents enjoy working with dogs" Aug. 16 Thousand Oaks Acorn) . So many people purchase a dog as the family pet but then forget that the dog requires training and exercise to have acceptable behavior.

      Regarding Sherry Jensen's letter ("Some people don't respect the First Amendment") in the Aug. 23 Thousand Oaks Acorn , I'm glad you wanted to participate in a '60s-style protest and have your children see and feel what it was.
