The city of Thousand Oaks still has openings for free screenings, for those ages 60 and older, that could help them take action to prevent a stroke.

The ultrasound test that looks at the carotid arteries and peripheral arteries is painless and can be done in minutes.

The screenings will be conducted by On-Site Health Screening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, tomorrow and Monday, Aug. 2, 3 and 6, at the Goebel Senior Center.

Reservations can be made in person at the senior center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by calling city of Thousand Oaks senior services staff at (805) 449-2743.

Proof of residency and age will be required.

Event check-in, at the center's Marquee Cafe, will be managed by commissioners from the Thousand Oaks Council on Aging.

These health screenings are made possible through a $14,000 onetime only grant from the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging "Strike out Stroke" program.
