Regarding your June 21 article "T.O. Boulevard business owners hear about trade-offs for 'smart growth,'" the Thousand Oaks Boulevard Association's out-of-town design consultant is suggesting four-story buildings lining the boulevard as smart growth for our town. More ... The city of Thousand Oaks is better off without the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program. Good intentions are no substitute for effective drug education. Independent evaluations of DARE have found the program to be either ineffective or counterproductive. The scare tactics used do more harm than good. More ... Regarding your June 7 editorial, "Thanks, T.O., for preserving DARE as long as you did," drug prohibition truly makes some editors and most politicians insane. I feel for her owners and understand the angst and fear they now experience each time they walk their dog in their neighborhood. I had a childhood poodle that was attacked by a Great Dane. I have been there. More ... Thousand Oaks is a wonderful place to live. It has often claimed to be the safest city in California. Our public schools are outstanding, and our weather is lovely. Many families with young children live in our area. But there is something that basically only the parents, caregivers and children know about our local playgrounds. More ... On June 27, I went on a walk and counted 417 pieces of trash. My mom, sister and I were amazed at how much junk we saw. I wish people didn't think that they can just drop trash wherever there aren't houses. On Moorpark Road near Wilbur there is a hill that has a bunch of litter on it. More ... My wife and I are members of Kaiser, and we make frequent trips to the Kaiser clinic near Hodencamp and Hillcrest. For some strange reason motorists race along Hillcrest unaware they're passing a healthcare center. More ... ArtWalk 2007 was held June 2 and 3 this year at the Countrywide Bank Building. It was the perfect weather to exhibit works of art in all media with the backdrop of the beautiful rolling hills.
