Parents the best teachers about sex and drugs All parents need to be aware that Dolores Didio's actions, while regrettable and inappropriate, are about the same as what the Conejo Valley Unified School District does to our elementary schoolers every year. DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) takes away from my child's academic pursuits every semester. So does the sex education that the bureaucrats feel is appropriate for fifth grade. These are issues that I, my clergy or my child's doctor will address. They belong in the home, leaving school for its intended purpose: education. Leave the morals to parents. Yes, I did allow my children to sit in on the sex education and I had no choice for DARE, but that doesn't change the fact that addressing those issues is my job as a parent, not the district's. In each case I objected; in each I was told of the hypothetical parent who doesn't do his job, therefore the district must do it for him. Ms. Didio chose the wrong age group and the wrong venue to bring up sex and/or drugs. No fifth-grader needs to be subjected to those topics by a stranger- - in the classroom or out of it. Daniel G.
