Only conservatives believe their own news sources Bob Paul's June 21 letter ("Wilson lied about the facts") citing Ken Timmerman and newsmax.com as his source on the Wilson/Plame debacle appears to be another case of the rightwing blogisphere repeating themselves. Newsmax is a right-wing "news source." The so-called rebuke doesn't seem to appear in any mainstream sources such as cnn.com, msnbc.com, latimes.com, washingtonpost.com or nytimes.com- - other than a minor, dated reference, if even that. The links that pop up most on a search are right-wing websites with the same typical talking points. Timmerman is a neocon Republican activist who in 2000 was a candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. senator. Hardly an objective source, as the neocons bear a large responsibility for getting us into the Iraqi quagmire. Whether Plame sent Wilson or not is a red herring. He was qualified for the task and even donated to Bush in 2000, so there was no hidden agenda. The result was, the source for the yellow-cake info was tainted, there was no Niger-Iraq nexus and eventually it was found there were no WMDs in Iraq- - or even the capability of producing them in mass. Ultimately, a covert CIA agent, responsible for preventing nuclear proliferation, was deliberately exposed because of the lowest form of politics. Paul Fargotstein Thousand Oaks |
