Go to camp and learn about nature Mountains Restoration Trust has announced that openings are still available for the Discovery Nature Camp. Session 1, which covers paleontology, insects and astronomy, will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mon. through Thurs., June 25 to 28 at 3815 Old Topanga Canyon Road, Calabasas. Designed for children 8 to 12 years old, camp adventures provide an introduction to the wonders of nature. The June session exposes children to science and their natural environment through nature crafts, labs using scientific tools, guided discoveries, hikes, games and interactive guest speakers. MRT will be accepting registration up to the first day of camp. "Nature Discovery Camp is designed to connect children to the healthy outdoors," said director Susan Haugland, an environmental instructor. "Children have hours of fun while learning to appreciate nature and developing a sense of stewardship for the environment." Other 2007 summer camp sessions are: Session 2, Stream Ecology, Geology, Birds and Field Trip from July 23 to 26 and Session 3, Reptiles and Amphibians, Mammals and Ecology, Aug. 20 to 23. For more information or to register, call Haugland at Mountains Restoration Trust, (818) 591-1701, ext. 181, or visit www.mountainstrust.org. |
