Oaks Christian boys' volleyball team wins third consecutive CIF-SS title

      Having been dealt the day's first match Saturday at Cerritos College, the Oaks Christian boys' volleyball team had to wake up bright and early for breakfast before its title tilt against Mayfair High. That meal must have included Wheaties, since it is the breakfast of champions.

Local athletes poised for title runs at CIF state meet

      For Agoura High discus thrower Derek Johnson, this weekend's CIF State Track and Field Championships will serve as the final chapter in an illustrious career representing the Chargers. The senior thrower has been dominant this season. He ranks second nationally with a personal-best mark of 205-05, which puts him 10th all-time in California history.

The governor would root for this squad
     THEY'LL BE BACK- The T.O. Terminators, a U-10 all-star girls' soccer team, won the championship at the Quartz Hill Shootout in Lancaster. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the Terminators finished in third place at the Top Gun Tournament in San Diego. Pictured in the back row are head coach Par Dannas and assistant coach Karun Kapur. Bywater, Mutz honored

      Alex Kurland of Calabasas High has been named the Marmonte League's baseball Player of the Year. Kurland, a catcher who will attend USC in the fall, batted .440 this season with four home runs, 14 RBI and 24 runs scored. He led the Coyotes with nine stolen bases and did not commit an error defensively.

Newbury Park all-stars taste victory at Strawberry Cup
     FRUIT CUP- The Newbury Park girls' U-12 all-star soccer team won its division at the Camarillo Strawberry Cup. It was the second tournament title for the team in two weeks.
