The Thousand Oaks High baseball team began the postseason with a bang last Friday, blanking Long Beach Poly 11-0 in the opening round of the CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs. More ... The CIFSouthern Section Divisional Finals took place last weekend in Norwalk and many athletes from the area posted top times. Senior Cory Primm of Westlake High defended his Division II title in the 800 when he ran a time of 1:50.90, a state record that had stood for 27 years. Primm also won in the 1,600, where he posted a mark of 4:14.42. More ... Although Andrew Lambo was brilliant in his last game as a Panther, Newbury Park High couldn't squeeze by Hart of Newhall in the opening round of the CIFSouthern Section Division I baseball playoffs. Down 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, NPHS senior Anthony Montenegro led off the inning with a single to right field. More ... Every Memorial Day weekend the Field Hockey Federation stages an international tournament at Moorpark College named Calcup. The tournament has age divisions ranging from 9 and under to over 40, and elite divisions with teams composed of international Olympic players. More ... ON THE FAST TRACK- The Thousand Oaks Flyers and Camarillo Gremlin girls' track teams had a nice weekend at the Varsity Finals. The two teams, comprised of 7- and 8-year-olds, tied in the 4x100 relay, breaking a meet record that had stood for 17 years. Thousand Oaks' team members from left to right are Michaela Crispin, Carolyn Wilson, Julia Conoscenti and Jillian Erickson. More ... Omitted from last week's article on the Oaks Christian boys' swim team were Chase Block and Jonnie Paré. Competing at the CIFSouthern Section Division III Swimming Championships in Long Beach, Block, a freshman, won the 500 freestyle event and Paré was victorious in the 100 freestyle. More ... Yariv Lerner has resigned as Thousand Oaks High's head boys' volleyball coach. Lerner has accepted a position to become co-head coach of the Santa Monica City College men's volleyball team. Lerner became the TOHS boys' coach in 2003 and won a pair of Marmonte League titles. More ... Since I've spent most of the last few years living in San Francisco, my favorite beach sport lately has probably been running.
