'Positive' evening honors 8-year-old
His close friend Shane Warburton, 9, who lives in Camarillo, has a famous father who's put together a night of entertainment to honor Lucas. TV star Patrick Warburton will host a benefit for Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School's Lucas Scott Memorial at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Fri., May 25 in the Performing Arts Center at Thousand Oaks High School. 'We want to be reminded there is still joy, laughter and happiness. The evening will be positive- the opposite of - Cathy Warburton "Those two boys loved science- astronomy, planets, rocks, minerals, crystals- they would play together and pretend Shane was an astronaut and Lucas was Houston, the control center," recalled Shane's mother, Cathy. "They loved to hike together and collect rocks." The boys had known each other since kindergarten but really got close over the last year when they shared a class together, Cathy said. Now an area at their elementary school has been dedicated in honor of Lucas, and Shane's mom sees her son sitting by himself under Lucas' tree. "It's a very sad time for everyone. It's hard," Cathy Warburton said. The benefit was organized to raise money to be given to the magnet school in Lucas' name. His parents can decide how the money is spent to honor their son, Cathy said. Patrick Warburton, who currently stars in the CBS comedy "Rules of Engagement," will be performing with comedians Mark Eddie and Michael Wilson. A children's choir will sing. "We want to be reminded there is still joy, laughter and happiness. The evening will be positive- the opposite of somber," Cathy said. Tickets cost $100 for preferred seating, $50 for adult general seating and $25 for children under 12. To purchase tickets or for more information, call Vicki Todd at (805) 2793567 or email raventodd@sbcglobal.net. Tickets will also be available at the door. |
