League registration opens for adult coed volleyball
      The Conejo Recreation and Park District sports office is accepting applications for the 2007 adult coed summer volleyball league. League games are played Wednesday and Sunday evenings at Thousand Oaks and Dos Vientos community centers beginning Wed., May 16.

Locals star at Ventura County Track and Field Championships

      Stars shined and records were shattered during last week's Ventura County Track and Field Championships at Moorpark High. Oak Park High got the action started on the track with a victory in the girls' 4x800 relay. Eagle runners Sarah Kiner, Julie Kopstein, Aimee Sands and Kari Miller posted a time of 10:02.55, helping OPHS finish ahead of Moorpark, Royal and Thousand Oaks.

      TITLE TEAM- The West Valley Wolves Squirt 'A' ice hockey team captured the California Amateur Hockey Association State Championship in San Jose. Local players that had standout performances throughout the playoffs include Connor Chilton and Trent Dolabson of Oak Park, Pat Newell of Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley brothers Ethan and Evan Somoza.

      The third time was definitely a charm for Royal High junior diver Melani Meister. Meister defended her crown at the Marmonte League Diving Finals last Friday at Rancho Simi Community Park pool, where she posted a total score of 442.25 in 11 dives.

Thousand Oaks gym receives a face-lift
      NICE NEW DIGS- Lancer Daniel Fudge dives for a ball during pregame warm-ups in the renovated Thousand Oaks High gymnasium on Tuesday. Some of the upgrades included in the $472,000 renovation project were three new scoreboards, new bleachers, a sand-blasted ceiling, a repainted interior with added graphics and new paint on the floor.

Lancer softball team beats Royal for the second time this year

      With a 2-1 win at home over Royal High on Tuesday afternoon, the Thousand Oaks softball team has put itself in position to claim at least a share of the Marmonte League championship. It was a pair of best friends- starting pitcher Brittany Reynolds and pinch hitter Jessica Mahn- who helped lead the Lancers (176, 92) to victory and into a firstplace tie with the Highlanders.
