Supreme Court and the Jewish tradition The Conejo Jewish Academy will offer a two-week course titled "Jewish Tradition and the Supreme Court" at 8 p.m. Wed., May 9 and 16 at 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills. There is a $10 course fee. The class, instructed by a panel of attorneys and moderated by Rabbi Moshe Bryski, will examine case law of the U.S. Supreme Court as it is debated and ruled on matters of Jewish interest, including the Yarmulke Case of Goldman v. Weinberger/U.S. Air Force and the Menorah Case of the city of Allegheny v. American Civil Liberties Union. "For the Jewish people, law has been seen as a holy enterprise, with its study considered a universal obligation and its mastery an opportunity to engage with the imagination of God," said Bryski. "While law might deal with worldly affairs, its every nuance unlocks some higher order, some deeper vision for humanity." The course has been accredited for CLE credits for California attorneys and by the BJE for educator credits. To register, call (818) 991-0991. |
