High school presents 'Dancing for Darfur' benefit The Genocide Awareness Club at Oaks Christian High School is organizing a "Dancing for Darfur" fundraiser at 8 p.m. Sat., May 19 at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village. Because of limited space, only 600 students from area high schools will be admitted. Tickets are $40 and will be sold beginning April 30. Students must present their school ID to purchase the tickets. For tickets, e-mail samfiala423@msn.com. All of the dance proceeds will go to aid the children in the Darfur region of Sudan, who are experiencing a mass genocide in their homeland. More than 1 million civilians have been displaced from their homes, and 450,000 people have died. Funds from the dance will aid children through the nonprofit organization Doctors without Borders, an independent international medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflicts, epidemics and disasters in more than 70 countries. The goal for the dance is to raise $20,000. This is not a schoolsponsored event, so the organizers are seeking donations from individuals and corporate sponsors to pay for the dance expenses. For further information, call Samantha Fiala at (805) 449-0044 or e-mail samfiala423@msn.com. |
