As a retired teacher of 33 years, I must take issue with your comments on your son's education in Conejo Valley Unified School District.

It's very apparent that you're not informed as to the state approved methods for teaching writing that have been in place for several decades. Your son's teacher was using a pre-writing technique to loosen the students up for the sole purpose of stimulating and extending their writing abilities. Spelling and punctuation are done during the proofreading stage.

The hubbub that you created didn't serve any purpose.

You owe the teacher, assistant principal and district an apology, not to mention your own son. If, indeed, he's a struggling learner, you need to look to your own self for the strength to give him the added encouragement he needs, as his teacher has done, a truly caring professional.
