Drivers: slow down
I know the widening of the 23 Freeway is necessary to reduce our traffic congestion. However, that scary short white wall so close to the cars, speeding drivers, the increase in semi trucks, fine dirt all over the lanes, debris (broken orange cones, etc.) are creating dangerous conditions.

Shoot the messenger for printing bad letters
Two letters written by advocates of creationism appeared in the March 15 Thousand Oaks Acorn . It was obvious to me that neither writer has any understanding of the "theory" of evolution, but they certainly aren't lacking in faith.

Bad taste is in eye of beholder
I'm not surprised that some folks in our community are offended by the name Bad Ass Coffee Company. But I'd also like to think that I am not alone in finding it odd that nobody was offended by Bad Ass's predecessor at that location, Spudnuts Donuts.

Wetlands should be left undeveloped
In the summer of 2006, plans were being drawn up by Centex Homes and Shato holdings to develop nearly 30 acres of wetland habitat next to the 101 Freeway and the Borchard Road exit. For the last several decades, many of us living here have enjoyed the flocks of ducks, killdeer, frogs toads, egrets, etc. that call this place home.

Evolution can be your friend
This is a response to the letter "Theory of evolution full of missing links" from the March 15 Thousand Oaks Acorn . In the letter, Lorin Wainwood challenges those who believe in evolution to "identify two examples that demonstrate the evolution from species A into species B." She goes on to assert that if we can do this we will "not only satisfy my curiosity but fame awaits you."

We can be a hub for science
I am a retried science school teacher. I often observed the value of hands-on learning and the joy of students being motivated to learn through the thrill of discovery. When I was a child I was inspired to learn and ultimately find a career in science from my memorable trips to science museums. I am sure that our schools will utilize this museum to inspire and educate our children.

Supports the Discovery Center
I am in support of the Discovery Center of Thousand Oaks. I feel hands-on science makes learning fun and exciting. Thousand Oaks is a community that values family activities and the science center is a perfect way to promote just that.

Concerned about inspiring new scientists
This letter is written in support of the Discovery Center that is being proposed in Thousand Oaks. It concerns me that there is such a lack of engineers and scientists in the United States. When jobs in the sciences become available, the applicants who are citizens of the U.S. are few.

Everyone will benefit from Discovery Center
Everyone in our community will benefit from the addition of the Discovery Center, a worldclass interactive science and technology museum to be built next to the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks. As a science educator for over 20 years, I recognize the fact that early experiences in science are critical in the development of problemsolving skills.

Teach creationism at home or in the church
The article "Evolution versus creationism under the microscope again" (March 8) and subsequent letters (March 15) indicate that some Southern Californians apparently do not learn logic and rhetoric.
