Cops chase juvenile in a stolen vehicle

A 17-year-old was arrested on charges of auto theft, DUI, driving without a license and evading a police officer after he allegedly led police on a short chase March 14.

It all began on a foggy night at 12:32 a.m. According to a Ventura County sheriff's official, a deputy tried to pull over a black Nissan Maxima that was driving about 80 miles an hour southbound on Erbes Road near Avenida de Las Flores when the pursuit began. The speed limit posted in that area of Erbes is 45 miles an hour.

The incident ended two minutes later near Janss Road and El Monte Drive when the young Thousand Oaks driver crashed and knocked over a power pole. Residents nearby lost power for a few hours. The suspect is said to have left the vehicle and taken off on foot. Deputies established a perimeter and soon arrested him.

The suspect sustained minor scrapes from the crash, officials said. He was booked at the juvenile justice center.
