Westlake Village resident John Daykin was named Development Coach of the Year by the CalSouth State Soccer Association Feb. 17 at the Nike Awards banquet held at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles. He was selected from 7,900 licensed coaches registered with CalSouth, the United States Youth Soccer Association's governing body for youth soccer in Southern California. More ... WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?- The Hungry Dogs AYSO U-10 boys' soccer team went undefeated and finished in first place at the Riverside Locomotion Tournament on President's Day weekend. The Dogs' division consisted of 15 teams from all over Southern California, and they went on to beat the top-seeded team from Moreno Valley 3-0 in the title game. POWER ON THE PITCH- The Newbury Park boys' U-12 'A' All-Stars claimed the first-place championship at the Riverside Locomotion Tournament during President's Day weekend. Newbury Park beat Culver City in the semifinal and Chino Hills in the championship match. In six games, Newbury Park allowed two goals while scoring 12. The team's players are Brandon Baldazzi, Kaden Burdick, Tony Churik, Jack Duncan, Garrett Edwards, Eduardo Faroni, Vitor Faroni, Kyle Gould, Jordan Harry, Daniel Hinds, Connor McDaniel, Mike Phillips and Tyler Smith. More ... The Ventura Premier Water Polo Club traveled to Coral Springs, Fla., to participate in the fifth annual South Florida International Tournament, Feb. 16-18. Twenty-four teams, including representatives from Hungary, Israel, Canada, Russia and Jamaica, joined a field of teams from across the United States for three days of competition for players 19 years old and younger. More ... The Thousand Oaks High girls' soccer team's postseason run is over. TOHS was defeated by Temecula Valley 3-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon in the CIFSouthern Section Division II semifinals. The Lancers, champions of the Marmonte League, finished the season 21-5-3, and had been riding a 16game unbeaten streak before losing to Temecula Valley. More ...
