Richard Simpson Richard Simpson After nearly 30 years serving the Conejo Valley Unified School District, Richard Simpson has announced he will retire this summer.

After time spent as assistant superintendent and acting superintendent, Simpson has been deputy superintendent since 1996. His last day will be July 2.

"I'm retiring from education, but I plan to be busy doing other things," Simpson said.

Instead of the usual three to four weeks he spends at his northern Utah cabin, Simpson said, he's looking forward to extending the trip to three to four months.

"Once it gets warm, I'll be back here," Simpson said.

Simpson's wife, Gayle, retired from teaching in Simi Valley last year. Their two children are grown and married.
