Longtime CVUSD administrator Simpson will retire in July

      After nearly 30 years serving the Conejo Valley Unified School District, Richard Simpson has announced he will retire this summer. After time spent as assistant superintendent and acting superintendent, Simpson has been deputy superintendent since 1996. His last day will be July 2.

Local student earns master's at Boston U.
      David M. Rich of Newbury Park received a master's degree in energy and environmental analysis from Boston University in January. Rich was one of 1,412 students to graduate from the college this year. Boston University has programs in the arts, sciences, engineering and professional areas.

Redwood teams win academic competition
      For the 10th year in a row, Redwood Middle School placed first in the statewide Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl academic competition. Both the seventh- and eighth-grade teams placed first in their categories. Each team scored more than 100 points more than their nearest rival.

Summer enrichment program offered
      The Conejo Schools Foundation, a nonprofit community organization which provides a variety of support to the Conejo Valley Unified School District, will offer a five-week, Monday through Thursday morning enrichment program at four sites this summer.

Food drive coming to WHS
      The Westlake High School Student PTSA annual Manna food drive will begin Mon., March 5. Food will be collected through Fri., March 16. Students should bring food to their fifth-period class. Anyone that would like to donate food can drop off food donations at the Westlake High School office, 100 N. Lakeview Canyon Road, Westlake Village.

After-school programs grow
      Ventura County schools have received $3.28 million in AfterSchool Education and Safety grants. The funds will be used to open 29 new afterschool programs serving 2,500 elementary and middle school students.

      Two local students have been named to the dean's list for the fall 2006 semester. +Dana Beierle of Thousand Oaks attends the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University and is a junior majoring in industrial and interaction design.
